Letter from the Vicar and Notices

From the Vicar…
My dearest brothers and sisters,
Prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.
John the Baptist comes into our way of being once again. John’s purpose in life, the role God has chosen him for: Prepare the way for the Lord. John is told from the moment of his birth that this is what God requires of him. Somewhere between his birth and his arrival on the River Jordan, he has gone into the wilderness. There, he is away from the voices and influences of power and religion. He is able to hear the voice of God. He has been able to find a place of silence and solitude where he is able to hear what God is saying. How difficult is this for us? It was obviously difficult for
John and that is why he went off into the wilderness.
The number of voices competing in our space is phenomenal, all differing opinions, some strong, some weak. Whether they are right or wrong is beside the point. All they are doing is blocking out the voice that we need to hear.
In this time of Advent, a time of preparation for the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ, we only need to hear one voice, the voice of the messenger:
Prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.
Every valley shall be filled, and every mountain and hill shall be made low,
and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough ways made smooth;
and all flesh shall see the salvation of God.
John calls us to listen for the voice of God, to hear his voice in the Scriptures, to create a space in our lives where God’s voice can become the most important.
Let us prepare the way of the Lord. Let us clear the Lord’s paths and make them straight. Let us clear a space in our lives to hear the word of God, in order to follow his ways to his glorious light.
May we all create the space to hear the word of God calling us to repentance, and may our love truly overflow with knowledge
and true insight. And in that may we all know
the salvation of God.

Father Chris
