Letter from the Priest in Charge and Parish Notices – 17 September 2017

Dear All

As you read this I will be in Korea – South Korea. If you are reading this at the 8am or 10am Service, I will hopefully be tucked up in bed and asleep. In a short while I will get up and try and find the Anglican Cathedral in Seoul. Yes – they have a service in English at 9.30 on Sunday mornings in the Crypt. I will let you know when I get back what I encountered. I certainly will enjoy the adventure or there again I may just stay in bed and sleep. I’ll let you know either way.

It is always exciting when we are away to go and explore new places and places of worship. The Caribbean has been very much in our thoughts this week. We spent Christmas last year on the Island of Grenada. On New Year’s Day we went to a church that still bore the scars of Hurricane Ivan which devastated that island in 2005. It was an Anglican church with no power, no form of musical accompaniment, Catholic in tradition, but a community steeped in joy. The music was led for the most part by one voice, it was beautiful. We certainly were the odd ones out, but made to feel so welcome. A 15 minute talk was given about giving at the Offertory (hint hint) and that was after a half hour sermon!

Grant, O God, that our Church may be as a city set upon a hill,

a witness to your love a powerhouse of prayer,

and a joy and help to all who worship within its walls.

Here may the tempted find strength and the sorrowful comfort.

Here may the aged find consolation and the young be inspired.

Shew your mercy upon us, and grant us your salvation through Christ our Lord.

The Reverend Anne Price
